Abortion as a Human Rights Issue

Logically, if it is the case that a fetus--an unborn child--MAY be alive, that is, if as President Obama asserts it is above our "pay grade" to know when life begins, then we must also, in the balance, be clear that abortions MAY be harming living entities. They are thus required to be protected by law. If the argument is that it's a woman's body and thus her right, then there are two counter arguments. The first is that the sexual union is an implicit contract obliging the woman to involve the man in any decisions concerning the outcome of that union, meaning the fertilized egg. Secondly, if women suggest that by the authority vested them, granting them power over the unborn, they ought to be able to determine the destiny of life, then men will forever subjugate women by that same logic, having the upper hand, shall we say, in brute force. It is a no-win situation. I think it is quite clearly a capitulation to the forces of sexual indiscipline to suggest that abortions should be accepted because we are bound to have unwanted pregnancies, unwanted, we should add, by the woman who wanted the sex. America ought to grow up.
