Representing America

Representative government has been argued for and is being defeated by the United States representatives themselves, both in the "lower" house and the Senate. We find, often, representatives assuming the power of "the greater good" in decision making, but never find, on the ground, this greater good to have helped their people. I live in upstate NY, these days, on vacation from my stomping ground in Georgia, and I walk around quite a bit. I'm a friendly fellow and I yap yap with the folks on the street when they need to sound off. Janitors, hot-dog sellers, construction workers. They all say the same thing. Confidence in the political system is at an all time low. I should know, I interned at DC. There I found the culture to be crass, materialistic and really childish. Quid pro quo ruled Washington in those days, scratch me back I scratch yours. And you know how good a backstratch can be. Wow.... I'm longing for one right now. It's always very hard, or unsatisfying to scratch one's own back. At any rate, the latest in these the series of blunder because of which I predict a new world order without America in the lead, within this presidential term, was the bill passed in the house pertaining to "global warming." I'm no expert on global warming and strictly based on the personality, if ego, of Al Gore I'm a skeptic. That Al Gore and I can agree on anything related to civilization is debatable. Nonetheless, I expect that in a fair society, the global warming metaphor is the largest and thus most important. It ought to be adjudged with care. But a bill was passed in the house, which not only was not read by most if not all members of the house, it had a three hundred page amendment added to it hours before it was passed--in the early morning. Again, no Michael Moore to spout the outsized child that is the mind of Liberal America. No foolish pundits to say that the government and our representatives are abusing their power. Quite in fact, I watched a gentleman who is also, but in science, skeptical of the global warming issue, and he wrote a report for the EPA which produced a counter advisement. This report was buried and not given to the decision makers. Now, this ought to be investigated. But it will not be. Why? It's simple. Mr. Obama lacks the honor of the office he aspires to. America shall fall if this continues. This is NOT a prediction.
