Stimulus Rush: Cocaine for the masses
Centrally, the stimulus bill was rushed, possibly in order to begin a process of inserting certain leftist ideas a la Emanuel. No crisis wasted indeed. Proof of this is in the solar panel debate, where a thoughtful plan would have granted each homeowner in the US a rebate for installing solar panels on their roofs, so that ALL American homeowners take advantage of this wonderful technological resource, we have a bill that is worried about family planning as though this was the third world. Can't tell you how disappointed I was when Madame Pelosi defended the family planning provisions, when a careful and thoughtful legislation might have began to identify and mitigate American pains and started leading us back to prosperity. You will find, without a doubt, that the Congressional Budget Office was precise. Despite the politics of our time, it is better to do nothing than do the wrong thing. Nancy Pelosi and President Obama have done the wrong thing, foolishly, and so now own the economy and the inability to fix it. I can give several more examples of what a thoughtful stimulus bill ought to have contained, and will probably do so as the indices continue to fluctuate. But let's be clear, if you spend a trillion dollars on ANYTHING we ought to see movement soon. Not next year, because you rushed a bill that makes no sense! It is too much, however, to get the media to accept the responsibility of being the taxpayers watchdog, who say that "doing nothing" would be worse, politically, than doing the wrong thing but don't say that doing the wrong thing should never be an option in the world's greatest economy.
