"And so," King Ma'at continued to announce as he walked through the market of the
strangers, "all who understand this tongue will be considered beneficiaries of
the land from whence it became..."
Silence. I looked around. It was a bit odd. A man, with many gold things stuck upon his robes, was announcing something, ostensibly in a strange language. And yet, even if these people did not understand the language, they should at least be looking at King Ma'at with some sort of curiousity, interest or amusement. Instead, they carry on as though he didn't exist.
"Sir," the young Sage whispered to King Ma'at, "something is not right."
"Is that right, young Sage?" King Ma'at said, indicating with great obviousness
that this fellow was the very last in the King's entourage to agree with the
Truth. Something was not right.
King Ma'at took a step back then proclaimed, "and so for Amon we conquer these lands
and people."
Suddenly the market errupted into chaos. It was the first time I saw the deaf.
It would not be my last.
