My Decision

In the world of positive music, being "better" or more talented than another is
often not a big deal, since the greater good is a greater and more relevant fact.
But over the past year my talent has blossomed and I see that I am now more talented
in many ways than many, if not most. It gets frustrating, then, to see how popular
culture is massaged to accept mediocrity and not take value seriously. It gets worse
when friends of mine, who accept my "brilliance" demonstrate that their valuation
of me is nothing but guess-work, when they also espouse the brilliance of someone
who I know is not. It is for this reason, that people do not know how to handle
real value in this millenium era, that I will not be joining the masses of performing
artists and exhibiting my works for the contemporary. I choose to maintain
my special-ness (thanx jade) by not signing with any label and just building a catalog of works for a library for my godson Mayowa and his peers. It is a more
fitting use of Performing Arts excellence. I will be working in the industry,
but not in the way originally envisioned. First job is a collaboration with an
award-winning SA journalist... a bit excited about that... and the prospect of
begining to build a reputation of "solid gold". If only others knew what I do
before they set off, they'd have known that a reputation is a catalog, and you
can claim all you want, but one bad song and your rep as one of "them" goes down
the drain. I'm very grateful.
