And so it came to pass, that after six years as an analyst for the government I qualified to join the "Magician's Guild." Now it was all a formality, something of unnecessary bureaucracy really, since no real Magician was possible since the rate of innovation was stabilized. Nevertheless, to fulfill a hidden fantasy I had nurtured since I heard of the guild, I put in my application.
"We will be administering an Oral IQ Test," the Admiral said, "are you a genius?"
"When I make a million dollars I'll know" I half-mumbled. The response took,
I am now told, 0.463 milliseconds.
"Ha!" the Admiral exclaimed. "I'll be damned. A real magician."
...
It should come as no surprise, then, that I was initiated into the Kingdom of Rome later that evening. I was now, as with the Masters of old, a Knower of things.
