Patrick Darling

In 1999, under the name "Anthony Abeke" I joined a listserv purportedly run by Dr. Patrick Darling, heralder of Sungo's Eredo, the fantastic earthworks built in Awujale land. During the course of that journey I came to believe that I was involved in a dialog with the playwright Wole Soyinka and that we disagreed on very fundamental matters. Whether or not Soyinka was on that listserv, only Dr. Darling can say. There has to be evidence of this situation, of Anthony Abeke on Darling's listserv, arguing with someone who may or may not have been Soyinka. At some point the CCs on messages to Anthony Abeke (me) became very high-level, so there is little doubt that whoever was representing Dr. Patrick Darling knew beyond Abeke. Otherwise, why would he copy him on such high-level email messages to visible and valuable players in the Nigerian spheres. Since that period much has happened, but nothing about my current state of mind will change if it was not Soyinka with whom I dialoged on Darling's listserv. My views are entrenched. I am unappeased by many of our elders, but you'll see that presently. For now, let Professor Soyinka represent the defense of the Nigerian way. They may survive.
