Lauryn Production Credits
For whatever reason, someone might have wanted to explain to me what happened with LH and why she was given a hard time about production credits. So I listened and observed quietly. Some members of "the community" demonstrated to me the process of producing a hip-hop album, the way, I presume, it is done in the hip hop "fam." From what I understand, the entire production process is the work of a team, no matter how much influence the actual performer has on the success of the product. From the little intern plugging wires to the one who brought the coke and chips to the seniors who brought the henny and vibe to the performer. Surely it complicates the advocacy of Performer's Rights but I see how it is feasible to deny a person sole production credits. Things are dynamic during recordings and I myself have seen the process of thievery of intellectual property--a moron thought he could steal crumbs from my library, crumbs which I promptly devalued. It doesn't matter, about Lauryn Hill, in my opinion. She might be getting greedy. That her album was seminal should be enough. Otherwise, vanity might devalue the work done and to be done by that piece of art.
